Category Labs is a systems engineering and research team building high-performance decentralized infrastructure. The company focuses on application-layer primitives enabled by a custom, high-throughput EVM client.

As a Smart Contract Engineer, you will work within the core engineering group to design and implement smart contracts aligned with the performance characteristics of the Category Labs client.

The role involves close collaboration with internal engineers as well as external application and infrastructure teams to identify ecosystem needs and remove technical blockers. You will contribute to contract design, security, and tooling while operating in a small, fast-moving startup environment.

🔹 Responsibilities

Design and implement smart contracts optimized for the resources and throughput of the Category Labs EVM client
Identify gaps or needs in the application developer ecosystem and address them in collaboration with the core engineering team
Work directly with external application or infrastructure teams to support integration and resolve technical blockers through domain-level understanding

🔹 Requirements

Minimum 4 years of software engineering experience, including at least 3 years developing smart contracts in Solidity
Prior blockchain engineering experience on Layer-1, Layer-2, or infrastructure projects such as oracles, bridges, indexers, RPC providers, or wallets
Strong expertise with Foundry and Hardhat, with deep understanding of application-layer security vulnerabilities
Backend engineering experience using low-level languages such as C, C++, or Rust
Experience building and shipping a substantial project from scratch, preferably with real users
Strong communication skills and willingness to engage in technical discussions, reviews, and documentation
Demonstrated practical problem-solving ability, system design skills, and a rigorous development mindset
