Software Engineer – Rust (Onchain)

Kraken is hiring a Rust-focused Software Engineer to support onchain engineering initiatives across its products. The role sits within a small backend engineering group responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining Rust services that interact with multiple blockchain networks.

This engineer will contribute to distributed system architecture, develop new features from specification to deployment, and integrate external APIs and blockchain data sources. The position requires consistent collaboration with product, smart contract, DevOps, and frontend teams to ensure cohesive delivery. The role also involves building reusable components, managing performance, and contributing to the scalability and reliability of onchain systems supporting Kraken’s ecosystem.

🔹 Responsibilities

• Build and maintain Rust-based backend services.
• Work with product, smart contract, DevOps, and frontend teams to integrate new features.
• Produce efficient, reusable, and testable code.
• Write specifications and oversee feature development through deployment.
• Contribute to distributed systems architecture at scale.
• Integrate external APIs and multiple blockchain networks into Kraken products.
• Work with onchain data as part of system and feature development.

🔹 Requirements

• 5+ years of full-time software engineering experience in large tech environments or fast-growing startups.
• 3+ years of hands-on Rust development.
• Background in blockchain or DeFi technologies.
• Security-oriented approach to system design.
• Ability to debug across the stack, including OS, network, and application layers.
• Understanding of distributed systems, RPC protocols, Kafka, and event-driven architectures.
• Ability to collaborate with product teams to translate requirements into system designs.
• Experience with GraphQL, SQL, REST APIs, and WebSockets.
• Deep familiarity with at least one blockchain ecosystem (Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana).
• Practical, solution-focused work style with resilience in complex environments.
• Ability to adapt quickly to new technologies and evolving requirements.
• Openness to discussion, feedback, and alternative technical viewpoints.

🔹 Compensation & Benefits

• Target salary range: $96,000 – $192,000 USD.
• Equity and bonus opportunities included.
