Engineering Manager (Data) — Data Science & AI Infrastructure

TRM Labs develops blockchain intelligence infrastructure used by public and private sector organizations to investigate illicit activity, monitor threat networks, and support financial crime investigations. This remote leadership position sits within the Blockchain Intelligence and Data Science organization, overseeing data platforms that power intelligence products across blockchain infrastructure roles, AI systems, and customer-facing data services.

The Engineering Manager, Data will lead teams responsible for data ingestion, processing, serving infrastructure, and intelligence product delivery. The role combines technical leadership, people management, platform strategy, and AI-driven development practices. Candidates with experience managing large-scale data infrastructure, APIs, AI platforms, data lake architectures, and production systems operating at significant scale will be particularly relevant.

🔹 Responsibilities

• Own the platform supporting more than one petabyte of intelligence products, including batch processing, real-time systems, and 24/7 API requirements

• Build next-generation AI architecture supporting blockchain intelligence infrastructure

• Drive significant improvements in the speed and efficiency of delivering intelligence models and data products to customers

• Lead, hire, and develop two sub-teams spanning data infrastructure and product-facing delivery functions

• Raise technical quality standards and AI fluency across the organization

• Define technical direction for production systems, architecture, tooling, and platform investments

• Build platforms that improve data scientist productivity and accelerate intelligence product development and deployment

• Oversee systems supporting intelligence data products from ingestion through customer delivery

🔹 Requirements

• 8+ years of hands-on data or engineering experience

• 4+ years of direct people management experience

• Experience operating as a player-coach, contributing to architecture reviews, debugging efforts, and system design decisions while leading teams

• Experience owning production systems at scale, including customer-facing data products, APIs, or decisioning platforms

• Strong Python skills

• Strong SQL skills

• Experience with BigQuery

• Experience with Airflow

• Experience designing and operating data lake architectures

• Experience building and managing serving layers

• Active daily use of AI tools to improve development workflows and decision-making

• Strong judgment regarding platform investments, architecture choices, and technical strategy

🔹 Team & Operating Environment

• Manage the Blockchain Intel Product Pod and Intel Platform sub-teams

• Work within a technically rigorous, ownership-driven, AI-native environment

• Collaborate with product, threat intelligence, and public sector go-to-market teams

• Operate within a distributed team primarily working across EST and PST time zones

• Use Slack for daily communication and Notion and Jira for project management and documentation
