Principal Product Manager — KYC & Payments

Exchange operates a global trading platform where identity verification, account funding, and user activation directly influence trading activity and revenue. This Principal Product Manager role owns the complete journey from KYC approval through deposit, first trade, re-verification, withdrawals, and onboarding rewards.
The position works across Compliance, Risk, Engineering, Operations, and Payments teams to improve identity verification, AML compliance, fraud prevention, payment rails, API-driven infrastructure, and activation conversion. Based in the United States with a hybrid work model, the role focuses on KYC, AML, payment infrastructure, fraud detection, onboarding optimization, and operational execution. This position is highly aligned with web3 security roles and compliance-focused product leadership at scale.
🔹 Responsibilities
• Own the end-to-end identity verification platform from KYC initiation through approval.
• Manage multi-vendor identity verification infrastructure, fraud prevention initiatives, and verification experience improvements.
• Develop routing strategies across identity verification providers to improve pass rates, reduce fraud, and optimize verification costs.
• Deliver configurable identity verification systems that reduce engineering dependency for operational changes.
• Build reusable identity verification components including document collection, liveness verification, facial matching, and motion-based verification.
• Partner with Risk teams on synthetic identity detection, fraud scoring, e-ID integrations, and machine learning-driven fraud controls.
• Evaluate and develop non-document verification and reusable identity solutions.
• Ensure regional KYC requirements are handled effectively across jurisdictions.
• Own the re-verification (Re-KYC) experience for existing users affected by compliance, risk, or document expiry requirements.
• Design communication, reminder, and grace-period processes to improve Re-KYC completion rates.
• Own fiat and crypto deposit and withdrawal experiences across supported markets.
• Manage payment method availability, eligibility rules, limits, onboarding of new payment methods, and payment provider integrations.
• Define deposit and withdrawal experiences including fee transparency, FX spread visibility, network selection, and transaction status communication.
• Own activation journeys from first deposit through first trade and first perpetual or index position.
• Collaborate with trading product teams to remove friction in account activation and trading conversion.
• Manage onboarding reward mechanics including KYC incentives, deposit bonuses, and first-trade rewards.
• Lead localization initiatives for new markets and regional payment methods.
• Track regional payment coverage and deposit success metrics.
• Promote AI-native product development practices and adoption of modern AI tools within the product organization.
🔹 Requirements
• 6–8+ years of Product Management experience.
• Experience within high-growth technology companies, preferably crypto exchanges, fintech firms, neobanks, or multi-asset brokers.
• Proven experience owning identity verification, payment rails, deposit conversion, onboarding, or compliance-focused products.
• Experience with identity verification platforms, KYC, AML, or payment rail integrations is strongly preferred.
• Strong technical understanding of payment gateways, ledger systems, APIs, SDKs, and developer tooling.
• Ability to discuss identity verification routing logic, fraud controls, liveness detection systems, and verification architecture with engineering teams.
• Deep understanding of KYC, AML, FATF standards, GDPR, SCA, and payment regulations.
• Ability to convert regulatory requirements into effective product experiences.
• Strong data analysis capabilities with experience balancing conversion, risk, and operational cost considerations.
• SQL proficiency and experience with Mixpanel, Amplitude, or equivalent analytics platforms.
• Demonstrated use of AI tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, Gemini, LibreChat, or equivalent human-in-the-loop workflows.
• Proven ability to drive execution, influence stakeholders, and lead cross-functional teams without formal authority.
• Track record of improving onboarding, payments, or activation flows through measurable product outcomes.
