Trading Technology Engineer (Senior) — Java / Quant Systems

BitMEX operates a high-performance crypto derivatives exchange, where the trading engine forms the backbone of order execution, risk management, and market data distribution. The platform is built for low latency, high throughput, and continuous availability across global markets.

This role focuses on building and scaling core trading infrastructure, working closely with quantitative researchers and financial product teams. You will own components of a high-frequency trading system handling millions of transactions per second, with strong emphasis on Java performance, concurrency, and system design. This position fits within blockchain infrastructure roles, where trading systems engineering intersects with real-time financial systems and exchange-scale reliability in a remote EMEA setup.

🔹 Responsibilities

• Own the design, development, and delivery of trading system components
• Implement new features, resolve bugs, and optimize system performance
• Collaborate with financial product teams and quantitative researchers on delivery
• Mentor team members and contribute to broader engineering initiatives

🔹 Requirements

• 8+ years of experience building high-performance Java applications
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related STEM discipline
• Experience in financial systems within hedge funds, investment banks, or exchanges
• Strong understanding of software development practices including TDD and BDD
• Knowledge of object-oriented design principles such as SOLID
• Deep understanding of algorithms and computational complexity
• Strong grasp of Java Memory Model and concurrency in production systems
• Proven analytical and problem-solving ability for complex system design
• Passion for software development with a focus on quality and continuous learning

🔹 Nice to Have

• Experience building execution algorithms and risk management systems
• Knowledge of FX or crypto spot and derivatives markets
• Basic mathematics understanding
• Experience with Docker or Kubernetes
• Familiarity with REST, WebSocket (WS), FIX, or financial protocols
