Senior Rust Engineer

Hyperlane develops a permissionless, modular interoperability protocol that enables developers to connect blockchains through a configurable security model. The protocol provides APIs that allow interoperability to be added to any chain without centralized approval, supporting Layer 1s, rollups, and application-specific chains.
The Senior Rust Engineer role focuses on building and maintaining Hyperlane’s core protocol and security systems. The position involves designing scalable and secure cross-chain components, integrating with multiple blockchain environments, and supporting interchain application development. This role also contributes to protocol evolution and assists external developers using Hyperlane’s tooling and APIs.
🔹 Responsibilities
Design and develop core protocol components with a focus on security, scalability, and cross-chain composability
Implement and optimize interchain security models across Layer 1s, rollups, and app-chains
Build and maintain integrations with major blockchains and rollup networks
Collaborate on the development of interchain applications demonstrating protocol capabilities
Provide technical guidance and support to developers building on Hyperlane
🔹 Requirements
Demonstrated professional experience with Rust
5+ years of experience building and maintaining high-availability systems
Ability to work independently in uncertain or evolving technical environments
Strong ownership mindset and initiative
Prior experience working in crypto or blockchain-related systems
Bonus: Experience with non-EVM smart contract platforms
