Job description

Alchemy is the leading Web3 infrastructure and developer platform powering millions of users and high-growth blockchain applications globally. Facilitating more than $1 trillion in cumulative on-chain transaction volume, Alchemy provides mission-critical developer tools, node infrastructure, and scaling layers for industry leaders including Stripe, Visa, JPMorgan, and Nike. Backed by a16z, Coatue, Lightspeed, and Stanford University, Alchemy provides the foundational rails for the open decentralized web.

Role Summary

As a Senior Blockchain Engineer on the Moonshot team, you will take high-ambiguity blockchain infrastructure concepts from theoretical inquiry to production reality. Operating as an experimental builder, you will formulate testable hypotheses, rapidly prototype across protocol clients, RPC layers, and transaction engines, and turn validated breakthroughs into production-grade, highly observable systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Hypothesis-Driven Prototyping: Partner with Product and customer teams to define experiment scopes, success criteria, and technical constraints before building prototypes across blockchain clients, indexing layers, and RPC services.

  • Protocol & Systems Research: Deconstruct complex protocol specifications, examine node client implementations, and validate assumptions with reproducible benchmarking and chaos testing.

  • Feasibility & Trade-Off Analysis: Assess technical feasibility alongside operational burden, latency profiles, gas implications, security posture, and infrastructure cost.

  • Production Hardening: Transition validated experimental systems into hardened production services complete with automated tests, rollbacks, telemetry, and operational runbooks.

  • Production Ownership & Support: Participate in on-call rotations, incident mitigation, and root-cause analysis for systems originated by the Moonshot team.

Requirements & Qualifications

Must-Haves

  • Systems & Blockchain Depth: Deep technical mastery of distributed systems and at least one major blockchain network (execution environment, transaction lifecycle, state transitions, consensus finality, and failure modes).

  • 0-to-1 Engineering: Proven track record transforming ambiguous technical concepts into functional, resilient prototypes and production-ready deployments.

  • Benchmarking & Profiling: Solid experience identifying bottlenecks across CPU, memory allocations, I/O storage, and network transport through rigorous profiling.

  • Correctness & Security: Methodical approach to security-critical code where state corruption or transaction loss could compromise user funds.

  • Technical Communication: Excellent technical writing skills to produce actionable documentation and post-experiment go/no-go recommendations.

Nice-to-Haves

  • Hands-on experience with systems languages (Rust, Go, C++) or direct contributions to open-source blockchain clients (e.g., Geth, Reth, Nethermind).

  • Domain expertise in RPC optimization, transaction simulation, MEV mitigation, or cross-chain state proof mechanisms.

  • Exposure to EVM internals, compiler design, or hardware performance counters.

Benefits & Perks

  • Health & Wellness: Comprehensive private health insurance and gym reimbursement.

  • Flexibility & Travel: Flexible time off policy, commuter benefits, and company-sponsored conferences.

  • In-Office Perks: Catered group meals in hub offices (SF / NYC).

  • Continuous Learning: Dedicated learning and development stipend plus a Bookster book/audiobook subscription.
