Senior Backend Engineer (Transit)
Remote · New York
Paxos Labs builds enterprise-grade infrastructure for trusted on-chain financial products. Working alongside major global financial institutions and platforms, Paxos Labs develops transparent, verifiable, and regulated on-chain systems designed to bring digital assets, tokenization, and DeFi into mainstream institutional use.
Role Summary
You will focus on building Transit, Paxos Labs’ liquidity orchestration and distribution network for tokenized assets. While asset tokenization is generating thousands of on-chain assets—stablecoins, money market funds, commodities, and private credit—issuers constantly face liquidity fragmentation.
Transit acts as an institutional liquidity layer powered by a real-time RFQ orchestration engine that aggregates DEX and solver liquidity, manages LP pools, enforces regulatory compliance, and delivers predictable pricing for enterprise clients. As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will advance Transit’s technical roadmap from 0 to 1 and harden mission-critical financial backend systems.
Key Responsibilities
Core Engine Engineering: Build, harden, and scale Transit’s real-time RFQ orchestration engine, aggregating DEX and solver liquidity for large-scale enterprise execution.
On-Chain Integration: Interface directly with the on-chain surface layer—integrating smart contracts, mint/redeem facilities, and compliance enforcement workflows.
Financial Correctness: Own backend systems where financial correctness and zero-defect execution are paramount.
Technical Direction: Set architectural standards and guide technical decision-making on a lean, high-ownership team.
Mentorship & Quality Bar: Elevate engineering rigor across the team through design reviews, testing standards, and mentorship.
Requirements & Qualifications
Must-Haves
Senior Backend Track Record: 6+ years of experience building, deploying, and operating production backend systems with direct ownership over high-availability services.
Zero-to-One Delivery: Demonstrated experience taking technical architectures from 0 to 1 and hardening them for production scale.
Financial Infrastructure Experience: Deep background building systems where correctness is financial (e.g., exchanges, trading platforms, order routing, clearing, or settlement systems).
Market Structure Comprehension: Strong grasp of traditional exchange market mechanics (CLOBs, RFQs, batch auctions) across economic, incentive, and technical dimensions.
Smart Contract Literacy: Ability to read Solidity code, trace transactions, and reason through contract interactions and state changes.
Quantitative Judgment: Solid judgment regarding latency, inventory risk, and execution quality, with the communication skill to explain pricing logic across technical and business stakeholders.
Nice-to-Haves
Direct background working at a proprietary trading firm, algorithmic market maker, or crypto exchange.
Multi-chain infrastructure experience, particularly in cross-chain inventory or treasury management.
Prior domain work with tokenized assets, stablecoins, or real-world assets (RWAs).
Compensation & Perks
Total Rewards: Highly competitive base salary package with meaningful equity participation.
Work Setup: Hybrid flexibility (NYC preferred) or remote collaboration.
High Impact: Direct architectural ownership over financial infrastructure that top-tier global institutions depend on.
