Security Engineer, Blockchain

Trail of Bits is seeking a Security Engineer focused on blockchain to support client engineering teams in strengthening the security of smart contracts and blockchain infrastructure. The role centers on analyzing blockchain codebases, identifying vulnerabilities, and producing structured feedback to enhance security posture.
The position also involves using internal blockchain security tools such as Slither, Echidna, and Medusa, while contributing improvements to tool integrations where needed. The engineer will review contract logic, examine protocol components, and gain deeper exposure to security models across multiple ecosystems. This role includes both hands-on security analysis and continuous learning in blockchain security practices as part of a globally distributed, research-driven engineering organization.
🔹 Responsibilities
• Review smart contracts, off-chain components, and infrastructure for security weaknesses
• Work with internal blockchain security tools and participate in tool enhancement efforts
• Analyze and resolve vulnerabilities across smart contracts, consensus models, and interoperability layers
• Develop research-driven understanding of security assumptions across L1/L2 networks, rollups, bridges, and consensus designs
🔹 Requirements
• Knowledge of Solidity security topics and EVM behavior, including common exploits and DeFi threats
• Proficiency in one or more systems languages (e.g., Go, Rust, C++) and familiarity with blockchain development frameworks
• Understanding of L1/L2 designs including rollups, state channels, or sidechains, plus awareness of consensus concepts such as PoS or Tendermint
• Interest in validating off-chain blockchain systems such as validators, oracles, bridge logic, and cross-chain interfaces
• Background in vulnerability assessment, security testing, fuzzing, or static analysis in blockchain contexts
