How do I switch from a data analyst job to a DAO analyst role? I have a few years of experience with SQL, Python, and data visualization tools. Lately, I’ve become interested in DAOs and how they let communities make decisions together. I want to build a career as a DAO analyst, but I’m not sure how to start.

Do my current skills in SQL and Python still matter in DAOs, or do I need to learn new tools? Should I focus on blockchain basics, tokenomics, or smart contracts first? What does a DAO analyst do each day, and what tools or platforms should I learn?

If you know any DAOs that welcome beginners, please share. I want to contribute and learn without feeling overwhelmed. Any advice, resources, or things you wish you knew before making this move would help a lot. Thanks!

Welcome to the DAO rabbit hole—it’s a thrilling space, and your data background is a huge asset. Let’s break this down:

Skills that transfer: Your SQL, Python, and data viz expertise are gold. DAOs thrive on on-chain data (transactions, governance votes, token flows), so querying blockchain datasets with SQL-like tools (Dune Analytics, Flipside Crypto) or analyzing them in Python (using libraries like web3.py) is core work. Data viz matters even more here—you’ll translate complex tokenomics or governance patterns into digestible insights for decentralized teams.

What to learn: Start with blockchain fundamentals (try Ethereum’s Introduction to Ethereum) and tokenomics (study DAO token models like MakerDAO or Uniswap). Smart contracts are critical—interact with them practically using Etherscan or explore basics via CryptoZombies.

Day-to-day: You’ll analyze governance proposals, voter behavior, treasury management, and member engagement. Tools: Dune for dashboards, Tally for governance analytics, DeepDAO for DAO metrics. Expect to collaborate via Discord and present findings to decentralized teams (adaptability is key—DAOs move fast).

Getting started: Dive into smaller DAOs like BanklessDAO or DAOhaus—many have “newcomer” channels. Contribute to bounties (e.g., Gitcoin) to build cred.

Pro tip: DAOs value community trust. Start by participating in discussions, then offer data insights. And yes, the jargon is intense—bookmark Token Engineering 101 and follow DAO analysts on Twitter (e.g., @pet3rpan).

You’re already ahead—data rigor + curiosity = a killer combo here. Feel free to DM me for deeper resource dives!
