• Can I Become a Blockchain Developer at 37 With No Tech Background?

Can I become a blockchain developer at 37 with no tech background, or is the field too crowded for newcomers? I’m 37 and tried web development last year.

I learned HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, but the competition made me step back. Now, I want to move into blockchain development because the technology excites me.

If I focus on Solidity, smart contracts, and build a strong portfolio, do I have a real chance? Is blockchain as saturated as web development, or is there still room for new developers? Does age matter in this field?

I’d appreciate honest advice from anyone working in blockchain or who switched careers later in life. Is there demand for new blockchain talent, or am I chasing another “what if”?

Any insight about landing that first job and the current state of blockchain careers would help.

Thanks for your advice. I’ve searched the forum but still feel unsure. Your real-world experience means a lot.

From personal experience, Blockchain development is absolutely possible for you, even at 38 with limited tech experience. The key is to build strong foundational skills first. While smart contracts are an important part, blockchain development goes way beyond that. dApps still need websites, wallets, and other tools, and all of these require solid software engineering.

Start by sharpening your web development skills—React and TypeScript are especially valuable in both web2 and web3. Once you've got a handle on those, you can market yourself as a junior developer to web3 companies, where you'll have the opportunity to learn blockchain principles on the job.

Blockchain development isn't as oversaturated as web development, so there's still plenty of room for growth if you have the right skill set. Focus on building a good portfolio, learn Solidity and smart contracts, but don't forget the importance of core web development skills. With dedication, you can definitely make the switch.

Are you sure? This action cannot be undone.
