  • I’m 37 and don’t have much tech experience beyond starting a career change in web development, but I gave up on that because the field seemed oversaturated. Now I’m looking into blockchain development, but I’m wondering if I stand a chance.

I’ve got some basic knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript from my web dev days, and I’m considering learning Solidity and smart contracts. If I build a solid portfolio, do you think it's possible to break into blockchain development? Is it as oversaturated as web dev?

Sorry if this has been asked before, but I’m trying to figure out if it’s worth pursuing.

From personal experience, Blockchain development is absolutely possible for you, even at 38 with limited tech experience. The key is to build strong foundational skills first. While smart contracts are an important part, blockchain development goes way beyond that. dApps still need websites, wallets, and other tools, and all of these require solid software engineering.

Start by sharpening your web development skills—React and TypeScript are especially valuable in both web2 and web3. Once you've got a handle on those, you can market yourself as a junior developer to web3 companies, where you'll have the opportunity to learn blockchain principles on the job.

Blockchain development isn't as oversaturated as web development, so there's still plenty of room for growth if you have the right skill set. Focus on building a good portfolio, learn Solidity and smart contracts, but don't forget the importance of core web development skills. With dedication, you can definitely make the switch.

Are you sure? This action cannot be undone.
