Fortytwo is developing a decentralized AI protocol on Monad that uses idle consumer hardware to enable swarm-based inference for small language models. The protocol focuses on distributed computation, resilience, and efficient collaboration between decentralized nodes to support advanced multi-step reasoning at reduced cost.

The Senior Rust Developer role is responsible for building and maintaining the peer-to-peer networking layer that underpins Fortytwo’s decentralized AI stack. This position focuses on designing secure, high-performance distributed systems that enable communication, coordination, and fault tolerance across heterogeneous environments, including edge devices and cloud infrastructure. The role works closely with blockchain engineers, protocol developers, and AI researchers to integrate networking components into the broader protocol architecture.

🔹 Responsibilities

Design and implement high-performance, secure, and scalable peer-to-peer networking protocols using Rust
Develop distributed systems that enable decentralized AI nodes to communicate and coordinate effectively
Ensure system resilience and fault tolerance through testing, monitoring, and performance optimization
Collaborate with blockchain engineers, protocol developers, and AI researchers to integrate networking components into the decentralized AI stack
Optimize networking performance across diverse environments, including edge devices and cloud systems
Contribute to open-source codebases and technical documentation aligned with the protocol’s development

🔹 Requirements

3+ years of professional Rust development experience, focused on distributed systems or peer-to-peer networking
Strong understanding of networking protocols such as TCP/IP, UDP, WebRTC, and libp2p
Experience designing and operating scalable, resilient distributed systems
Proficiency in building systems with security and fault tolerance as core design considerations
Familiarity with decentralized technologies, including blockchain systems, consensus mechanisms, and cryptographic techniques

Preferred (if applicable):

Experience with WebAssembly (WASM) and cross-platform Rust development
Familiarity with decentralized AI concepts and swarm intelligence
Knowledge of containerization and orchestration tools such as Docker and Kubernetes
