Job description

Senior Backend Engineer, Onchain at Polymarket is a full-time Engineering role listed with New York and Remote as the location, while the source job post also shows the location type as On-site. The role is focused on backend engineering for onchain execution infrastructure, including relayer systems, transaction pipelines, RPC infrastructure, and settlement logic.

Polymarket is looking for a backend engineer with deep blockchain knowledge and fluency in how EVM networks work under the hood. The source job post does not mention a salary range, application deadline, country eligibility, visa support, or timezone requirements.

About the role:

Polymarket is hiring a backend engineer for its Onchain Execution team. The team works on systems that connect Polymarket’s product layer with blockchain infrastructure, including relayers, transaction pipelines, RPC connectivity, and settlement logic.

The role involves technically demanding backend work across distributed systems, blockchain protocols, and high-throughput engineering. The source job post says the ideal candidate should bring strong backend fundamentals along with practical understanding of EVM networks.

Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain onchain execution infrastructure for Polymarket’s markets.

  • Design and operate relayer systems, transaction pipelines, and settlement logic.

  • Build reliable and scalable APIs and services for high transaction volumes and real-time data.

  • Own RPC and chain connectivity for EVM network integrations.

  • Improve throughput, efficiency, performance, and reliability across onchain systems.

  • Apply security and fault-tolerance practices for distributed systems in onchain environments.

  • Participate in code reviews and help maintain engineering quality across the team.

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of backend development experience.

  • Strong backend fundamentals, including clean and well-tested code.

  • Solid database design experience, with PostgreSQL or equivalent systems.

  • Experience building well-structured APIs.

  • Understanding of EVM networks, including transaction lifecycle, gas mechanics, mempool dynamics, and smart contract interactions.

  • Experience with systems-level languages; Golang is strongly preferred, while Rust or C++ is also valued.

  • Familiarity with blockchain infrastructure such as RPC nodes, event indexing, relayer architectures, or similar systems.

Preferred / plus experience:

  • Direct experience building or operating a relayer system.

  • Experience with Ethereum rollup technologies such as Arbitrum Nova or Optimism.

  • Experience with BFT consensus engines, libp2p, or core node software.

  • Open-source contribution in the blockchain ecosystem.

  • Active participation on ethresear.ch or similar protocol research forums.
