Role Summary

As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will design, scale, and maintain mission-critical backend services and APIs that process vast amounts of supply chain and sustainability data. Working closely with cross-functional product teams, you will tackle technical complexity around high-throughput data pipelines, data ingestion integrity, microservices orchestration, and database optimization across modern cloud environments.

Key Responsibilities

API & Core Architecture: Architect, build, and optimize robust RESTful APIs and backend services using Python and modern frameworks.
Data Scale & Performance: Optimize relational database models (PostgreSQL) for complex queries, data integrity, and high-performance ingestion.
Cloud & Distributed Systems: Deploy, monitor, and scale distributed backend services across AWS cloud infrastructure.
Code Quality & Reliability: Uphold rigorous engineering standards through thorough code reviews, automated unit/integration testing, and system observability.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with frontend engineers, product managers, and data analysts to translate ambiguous product requirements into reliable software architectures.

Requirements & Qualifications

Must-Haves

Senior Backend Background: 5+ years of production experience building and maintaining scalable backend applications and distributed systems.
Core Technical Stack: Deep proficiency in Python and established frameworks (Django, FastAPI, or Flask).
Database Mastery: Strong hands-on expertise with PostgreSQL or other relational databases, query tuning, schema design, and indexing strategies.
Cloud & Infrastructure: Working experience with AWS services (ECS/EKS, Lambda, RDS, S3) and containerization tools (Docker).
Engineering Rigor: Strong background in test-driven development, CI/CD automation pipelines, and production monitoring.
Communication & Autonomy: Clear written and verbal English communication with demonstrated success in fully distributed, asynchronous environments.

Nice-to-Haves

Experience handling supply chain data, ESG metrics, or carbon accounting data workflows.
Familiarity with event-driven architectures, message brokers (Kafka, RabbitMQ, or SQS), and asynchronous processing (Celery).
