Full Time Posted: Jun 28, 2026
Job description

OKX operates a global crypto exchange and develops products including OKX Wallet for digital asset trading and decentralized applications. The Compliance Engineering team builds and maintains systems supporting KYC, AML, sanctions screening, transaction monitoring, travel rule compliance, case management, and regulatory reporting.

This Principal / Staff Engineer role owns technical direction for compliance platform initiatives while integrating AI capabilities into enterprise engineering workflows. The position requires experience with distributed systems, Java services, AI/ML inference, audit-ready architectures, and regulated environments where deterministic enforcement is essential. The role contributes to web3 security roles by designing scalable compliance infrastructure, establishing AI engineering practices, and supporting collaboration across engineering, data science, risk, and legal teams.

🔹 Responsibilities

  • Define technical architecture and implementation strategies for compliance platform projects covering KYC onboarding, identity verification, sanctions, PEP and adverse-media screening, transaction monitoring, travel rule, case management, and regulatory reporting.

  • Build AI-powered capabilities including intelligent screening disambiguation, document verification, anomaly detection, automated risk scoring, and analyst-assist agents.

  • Lead engineering projects, coordinate technical resources, resolve implementation challenges, and ensure timely, high-quality delivery of AI model integrations within compliance workflows.

  • Collaborate with Data Science, Risk, and Legal teams to productionize AI models while maintaining reliable and auditable inference infrastructure.

  • Design clear architectural boundaries between probabilistic AI models and deterministic compliance controls to preserve auditability and regulatory enforcement.

  • Mentor engineers and establish AI engineering best practices, including agentic coding patterns, prompt libraries, evaluation suites, and human-in-the-loop review processes for regulated environments.

🔹 Requirements

  • Demonstrated compliance-first engineering mindset with expertise in state machines, idempotency, exactly-once semantics, reconciliation processes, and immutable audit logs.

  • Experience in KYC, AML, sanctions, fraud, payments, or regulatory audit environments is highly desirable.

  • Daily hands-on use of AI coding tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Codex CLI, or equivalent solutions.

  • Production experience integrating AI/ML model inference into Java services using REST or gRPC model serving, feature engineering pipelines, latency optimization, and rollback strategies.

  • Practical experience with LLM application patterns including RAG pipelines, agentic workflows, or production LLM-based classification and extraction systems.

  • Strong discipline around AI evaluation, hallucination testing, prompt regression suites, and human review for high-risk decisions.

  • Exposure to LLM integration, prompt engineering, AI agent frameworks, or orchestrating AI workflows within regulated environments.

  • Solid understanding of distributed systems concepts including CAP theorem, consistency models, idempotency, and exactly-once versus at-least-once delivery semantics.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with compliance officers, auditors, and regulators.

🔹 AI Proficiency Expectations & Interview Process

  • Demonstrate practical AI-assisted software engineering workflows, including prompt design, task delegation, code review, and measurable engineering outcomes.

  • Complete a live AI coding exercise using your preferred coding agent on a compliance-focused engineering scenario.

  • Participate in a system design discussion focused on selecting appropriate AI usage and deterministic fallback mechanisms.

  • Discuss production AI evaluation frameworks, guardrails, or approaches for building reliable AI-assisted compliance features.

🔹 Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive total compensation package.

  • Learning and development programs with education subsidy, including support for AI tools, courses, and conferences.

  • Team-building activities and company events.

  • Wellness and meal allowances.

  • Comprehensive healthcare coverage for employees and dependants.

  • Additional benefits shared during the recruitment process.
