Hi everyone, I’m 18 and want to start my career in the blockchain industry. I’m planning to do an internship, but honestly, I’m confused about what skills to learn first.

Some people say start with Solidity because it’s core for smart contracts. Others suggest learning basic cryptography before touching coding. I’m not sure which is the better starting point.

I also want to explore side projects like DApps, DeFi, or Web3 gaming, but I don’t know where to look for such opportunities. If anyone can share free resources, Discord servers, or good YouTubers to follow, it would really help.

Thanks in advance for guiding me 🙏

If you want to get into blockchain, don’t overcomplicate it at the start. Learn the basics of how it works like how blocks linked together, secured by cryptography, and verified across many computers instead of one central system. Once you get that idea, look into smart contracts on Ethereum because that’s where most of the action is.

On the coding side, you don’t need to jump straight into Solidity if it feels overwhelming. Start with something you already know like Python or JavaScript. Once you’re comfortable, move into Solidity to actually build contracts. Having decent knowledge of data structures and logic will also make things easier later.

I would suggest don’t just read theaory. try to build small projects. A simple voting app or a token on Remix is enough for your practice. These practical experience will help you more than any guide or tutorial.

And finally, try to share what you build. You can post it on GitHub, join a hackathon, or just hang around in blockchain Discords. You’ll pick up more by being part of the community than by learning alone. That also makes internships easier because people will already see what you can do.

Good advice above. I’ll just add one thing. Don’t wait too long before joining a community or hackathon. A lot of beginners spend months watching tutorials and never test themselves in real situations. The truth is, you’ll learn way faster when you try to build something with a group, even if you don’t understand everything at first.

When I started, I joined an online hackathon without knowing much Solidity. I mostly asked questions, but by the end, I had a small piece of code running and a couple of people I could message later for help. That experience gave me more confidence than weeks of reading.

So yes, learn the basics and practice on Remix, but also take part in a hackathon or DAO project early. You’ll get stuck, but that’s where the real learning happens.

From a hiring side, nobody expects interns to be experts in blockchain. What matters is whether you’ve made the effort to try things on your own. Even a small project on GitHub or a basic smart contract shows more initiative than writing “blockchain enthusiast” on a CV.

If you’ve joined a hackathon, contributed a little code to an open-source repo, or even posted online about what you learned, that gets noticed. It tells us you’re curious and actually doing something, not just watching videos.

So don’t wait until you feel “ready.” Build small, share it, and put it out there. That proof of effort is usually enough to get your foot in the door for an internship.
