Job description

Ava Labs is hiring a Staff Backend Engineer for their Institutional Custody division, focused on designing and scaling secure blockchain and wallet infrastructure. This role sits at the intersection of technical leadership and hands-on engineering, leading long-term architectural direction and backend development using Golang.

The position works closely with cross-functional teams — including Product, Security, and Business Development — to build modular, production-grade crypto storage solutions with strong security guarantees. The ideal candidate has experience with blockchain protocols, wallet engineering, and a deep understanding of UTXO vs. Account models. The role requires a self-driven mindset with a high degree of ownership and accountability in delivering secure systems at scale.

2️⃣ Responsibilities

Innovate & Architect

  • Build secure wallet systems using Golang

  • Implement MPC and multi-sig solutions

  • Architect modular backend services focused on performance and security

Collaborate Across Teams

  • Work with partners to optimize product integrations

  • Provide technical guidance across multiple internal departments

Drive Product Advancements

  • Identify technical opportunities and solutions for customers

  • Design systems that support mass crypto adoption

Exhibit Extreme Ownership

  • Operate autonomously, driving execution end-to-end

  • Take full responsibility for backend quality and security

3️⃣ Requirements

  • 5+ years backend engineering experience

  • Experience building crypto wallets or blockchain systems

  • Mastery of UTXO + Account models, consensus, state management

  • Strong secure coding & security architecture knowledge

  • Familiarity with cloud deployments and competitive tech stacks

  • Self-directed personality with strong ownership

  • Strong problem-solving abilities and user-centric mindset

4️⃣ Nice to Have

  • 3+ years solution architecture experience

  • Golang and JavaScript experience

  • MPC protocol familiarity

  • Security tooling & penetration testing knowledge

  • Infrastructure experience: Kubernetes, CI/CD, AWS, GCP, Azure

  • Senior-level engineering in a blockchain org
