Coinbase operates a global digital asset platform supporting cryptocurrency trading, custody, and onchain infrastructure. The Senior Counsel, Security and Technology role sits within the Security/Technology Legal team, advising security and technology organizations on regulatory compliance and governance matters.

This position focuses on cybersecurity law, incident response reporting, and information security program obligations across U.S. and international jurisdictions.

The role works closely with business leaders, security teams, and international entities to ensure compliance for new products, services, and cross-entity operations. Responsibilities include monitoring regulatory developments, managing outside counsel, and supporting Coinbase’s global growth through practical legal guidance in highly regulated environments.

🔹 Responsibilities

Act as a legal advisor to executives and security/technology teams on compliance with U.S. and international financial services, e-money, and cybersecurity regulations
Provide legal guidance to international entities on cybersecurity compliance for products, services, governance structures, and cross-entity oversight
Oversee reporting of security and operational incidents to relevant regulators
Advise on regulatory and policy developments related to digital assets, cybersecurity, and technology governance
Assess legal and operational risks and support scalable legal processes as the business grows
Manage and coordinate outside counsel on specialized matters while building internal subject-matter expertise

🔹 Requirements

Qualified attorney with approximately 6–10 years of experience in cybersecurity law
Experience in regulated financial services environments or law firms supporting such clients
Strong familiarity with existing and emerging cybersecurity regulations
Ability to manage complex, cross-functional projects across multiple time zones
Ability to work closely with security teams on coordinated legal guidance
Strong judgment, analytical skills, and ability to deliver practical legal advice with limited supervision
High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Strong legal writing and stakeholder communication skills
Comfort working independently in a regulated, high-growth setting

🔹 Compensation & Benefits

Base salary range: $224,995 – $264,700 USD
