Engineering Manager
FULL_TIME • NA
About the Organization
Risk Labs serves as the foundation behind the UMA and Across ecosystems — two pioneering protocols advancing Web3’s trustless data and cross-chain infrastructure.
UMA (Universal Market Access) acts as a decentralized oracle that enables any verifiable real-world data to be securely recorded on-chain.
Across uses UMA’s oracle to power a cross-chain bridge focused on low-cost, high-speed interoperability between L2s and rollups.
Together, they aim to make blockchain systems more usable, transparent, and accessible for builders and end users.
Job Description
Risk Labs is hiring a hands-on Engineering Manager who can bridge technical leadership with day-to-day engineering execution. This position suits professionals who enjoy coding, mentoring, and shaping system design — all while leading a small, high-impact engineering squad.
If you’re a crypto-native builder with a passion for scalability, security, and interoperability, this is your chance to shape the next generation of decentralized infrastructure.
What You’ll Do
Design & Architecture: Collaborate on building technical solutions for complex DeFi and cross-chain challenges.
Team Leadership: Manage and mentor a small, agile group (2–4 engineers), fostering ownership, performance, and continuous learning.
Hands-On Development: Contribute directly to codebases across smart contracts, bots, and frontend layers while maintaining robust review standards.
Project Management: Translate product roadmaps into engineering milestones and ensure timely delivery.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with product and ecosystem teams to align architecture with UMA’s and Across’ broader vision.
DeFi Research: Stay informed about new trends in decentralized oracles, interoperability protocols, and AI’s role in modern engineering workflows.
Preferred Background
4+ years of experience in software or fintech engineering roles.
Proven record of leading small technical teams or projects from concept to production.
Experience shipping at least 3 blockchain-based projects (Solidity or cross-chain preferred).
Strong grasp of system design, scalability, and security principles.
Familiarity with Solidity, TypeScript, and Google Cloud Platform.
Ability to guide engineers while remaining an active technical contributor.
Compensation & Perks
Salary range: USD 130K–200K, payable in stablecoins or fiat.
Token incentives in $UMA and $ACX, with governance participation opportunities.
Fully remote — choose where you work best (must overlap 3–4 hours daily with EST).
Team offsites twice a year for collaboration and strategy.
Flexible paid leave, family support, and professional development coverage.
Culture & Values
Risk Labs is a values-driven organization rooted in the ethos of open-source blockchain culture.
Curiosity and integrity guide decision-making.
Transparency, honesty, and learning through iteration are daily practices.
The team values autonomy and encourages smart risk-taking to achieve meaningful outcomes.
Risk Labs celebrates diversity and welcomes applicants who may not meet every listed requirement but share a commitment to impact and innovation in crypto.
Why People Thrive Here
Risk Labs combines the energy of a startup with the mission of a public good. You’ll work with engineers and strategists who’ve built for world-class protocols and backed by notable investors such as Placeholder, Coinbase, Bain Capital, and Dragonfly. The culture values balance — remote freedom with community connection — ensuring both wellness and creativity thrive.
UMA’s oracle continues to redefine how truth is verified on-chain, while Across is setting new standards for intent-based cross-chain settlements. Joining now means helping shape the infrastructure that will power the next decade of decentralized systems.
