Senior Rust Developer — Distributed Systems / P2P Networking

Fortytwo is building a decentralized AI protocol on Monad, focused on enabling scalable swarm inference using distributed compute resources. This role fits within blockchain infrastructure roles, combining distributed systems, peer-to-peer networking, and decentralized technologies in a fully remote engineering environment.

As a Senior Rust Developer, you will design and operate high-performance networking systems that enable decentralized AI nodes to communicate and collaborate. The role emphasizes Rust-based system design, fault-tolerant distributed architectures, and performance optimization across edge and cloud environments. You will work closely with protocol engineers and AI researchers to build reliable infrastructure supporting decentralized AI workloads at scale.

🔹 Responsibilities

• Design and implement high-performance, secure, and scalable peer-to-peer networking protocols in Rust
• Develop distributed systems enabling decentralized AI nodes to communicate and collaborate
• Ensure fault-tolerance and resilience through testing and system optimization
• Collaborate with blockchain engineers, protocol developers, and AI researchers to integrate networking layers
• Optimize performance across edge devices and cloud computing environments
• Contribute to open-source projects and technical documentation

🔹 Requirements

• 3+ years of experience in Rust development focused on distributed systems or P2P networking
• Strong understanding of networking protocols including TCP/IP, UDP, WebRTC, and libp2p
• Experience building scalable and resilient distributed systems
• Ability to design systems with strong security and fault-tolerance considerations
• Familiarity with decentralized technologies including blockchain, consensus mechanisms, and cryptography

Preferred

• Experience with WebAssembly (WASM) and cross-platform Rust development
• Familiarity with decentralized AI and swarm intelligence concepts
• Knowledge of containerization (Docker) and orchestration tools (Kubernetes)
