How can I move from ERP API development to blockchain API development? I have years of experience building APIs for ERP systems, mostly using Fortran.

Blockchain tech feels very different from what I know. I see terms like smart contracts, Solidity, IPFS, and GraphQL everywhere.

Which programming languages and tools should I learn first? Are frameworks like Truffle, Hardhat, or Hyperledger Fabric good starting points for someone with my background?

Where can I learn about the cryptography used in blockchain? Can you recommend YouTube channels, Discord groups, or solid courses that go beyond basics?

I want practical advice to help me make this transition. Thanks!

Start with JavaScript or TypeScript, then learn Solidity for smart contracts. Use Web3.js or Ethers.js to connect with blockchains, and try Truffle or Hardhat for Ethereum development. For enterprise projects, look into Hyperledger Fabric. Coursera and EatTheBlocks on YouTube are great for learning blockchain and cryptography basics.

I made a similar switch from ERP APIs, so I know it feels like a big leap. The good news is, your backend experience gives you a solid foundation. Most blockchain APIs aren’t that different from what you already know—just new tools and some new concepts. Discord channels like Chainlink and Ethereum are super helpful for real-time questions. Build a few small projects to get comfortable, and don’t get discouraged by the jargon. You’ll pick it up faster than you think!
